developing an innovative service to encourage young adults to care for their long-term health

Scope: Product & Service Innovation, Design & Market Research

Client: Forward Health

Partner: CCA Design Strategy MBA Program

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Preventative medicine and proactive health habits go a long way towards improving health outcomes in the future, but many young adults don't feel that they have the tools or motivation to prioritize their long-term health as they would like. The objective of this project was to develop an innovative solution on behalf of our "client" - Forward Health.

The work for this project was completed over the course of the fall 2022 semester for Market Insights, a core class in the CCA Design Strategy MBA program. This work was a collaboration between Julia Um, Ryland Webb, Vivian Lee, and Stephanie Hoang.

CONTEXT

How might we encourage millennials to be more engaged in preventative health?

PROCESS

To explore the question "how might we encourage millennials to be more engaged and empowered in preventative health?", we took to the streets to learn about what millennials care about when it comes to their personal health. We conducted 15 street intercept interviews throughout different areas of San Francisco. We found that millennials have core functional needs that the current healthcare system does not consistently deliver on, such as cost transparency, personalized health, and care when they need it. Beyond core functional needs, we also identified experiential needs of patients.

FUNCTIONAL & EXPERIENTIAL NEEDS MAPPING

CONCEPT IDEATION & FEATURE PRIORITIZATION

Based on interviews, the team developed concepts for a service that focused on delivering key experiential and functional needs, prioritizing concept features based off feasibility, viability, and desirability. The following storyboard highlights the customer experience using our proposed service. To test our concept's desirability, we conducted additional interviews to collect patient feedback on our concept.
