post-partum lactation support

how might we provide a seamless transition from hospital to home for people giving birth?

CONTEXT

Scope: Service Design, patient personas, service blueprint

Partners: leading academic medical center

roles & responsibilities: The core project team was comprised of two service designers, a project associate, and two maternal child health leads. I was responsible for conducting research, facilitating workshops, gathering stakeholder feedback, and creating final deliverables in Figma

objective: deliver opportunities & guidance to inform vendor selection for telelactation support services

background: The transition from hospital to home presents multiple challenges for new parents, particularly around breastfeeding and mental health. While breastfeeding offers documented benefits for both mother and infant, many parents struggle to establish successful feeding routines. Traditional support services often require burdensome hospital visits, straining both families and healthcare systems.

This service design project developed guidelines for a tele-lactation support program that bridges the hospital-to-home transition gap. This work uncovered the need for culturally responsive, accessible care through virtual consultations, multilingual resources, and flexible scheduling options - addressing diverse needs identified through research with birthing parents and clinical leads.
